The fire effect was created by clouds with a gradient map layer. (I can explain that if needed.)

OK: Step 1: Get a nice picture of a cloud, and smudge it, or just use this:  Step 2: Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Gradient Map> Select the purple to orange one: Step 3: Finally set the layer to linear light, and you'll get a nice fire/explosion effect:  You can also play around with other blending options to get other effects |
