I'm thinking about getting a job, and paying for my internet myself, seeing as how this computers mine, no1 can realy argue The only problem is that I'm worried if I get a job, it'll screw me up (even more) in school, and I'll end up... a) dropping out. b) getting kicked out. And in my stubborness I refuse to go to any other school. I don't wanna end up out of school, like my brother and sister, who both happen to be pot heads, my brother who doesn't have a job. I'm not concidering loseing school for a job right now, just to get internet... but my moms also complaining about me not having at least a part time job or anything.. gah! typical female Anyways... we'll see what happens. EDIT: I just wanted to be some stock boy or somthing... My brother tells me he's done that, and he hated it because all they did was bitch at him. In my opinion I won't get bitched at... because I'll do it right. Theres no way I'm going to work at McDonalds $7 an hour x 8 hours a week x 4 weeks in a month = $224/month (before taxes)
With that, you can pay for your internet, TV, & phone for you & your neighbor (or me) and you'd only have to work 1 day a week.
A lot of people find that working actually helps them do better in school. You can always quit after a week if it sucks. But be totally honest... how long do you REALLY spend on schoolwork? You probably would just be giving up TV/internet time rather than study time.

IT doesn't have anything to do with schoolwork that I do at home... I dont do homework, and I argue with my teachers when they ask for it. I've always goten away with it. It's the fact that I don't like school, in any concievable way, so if I were to start working, and finding that im getting half decent funds, I may drop out. and as for my attendance.. I live an hour away from my school, and have trouble getting up in the morning.. for example im late right now. While working, I'll probably end up sleeping in later, and that will get me kicked out.

Well, keep this in mind. The most "decent" money you'll be able to make without a high school diploma is like $25,000 a year and you'll be stuck doing something like pumping gas for the rest of your life.
I don't particularly love school either but the way I see it is just to grit my teeth & deal with it for 4 years then for the next 60 I can enjoy myself & not have to worry about living in a trailer.
Besides, aren't you a senior? If you can sit through class, bullshit through your homework, and show up for tests you will pass all your classes guaranteed. The only people who don't graduate are the people who don't show up.

Sounds like me Today I didn't want to go to one of my classes... so I sat in my class that I was already in, which happened to be across from my next class. Turns out we had a supply, so the teacher whos class I was in just went over and told her I'd be in his room instead, which was great.. The thing is, I didn't go over to that class, I couldn't force myself to do it, and that happens to me alot. And its not even a difficult class... all I have to do in that class is draw girls, which is one of my all time favorite things to do =P It's jsut that its so... dull, Im not active at all, not thinking at all. Yeah.. I don't find any part of school difficult, I just hate it. In all honesty I think I have the easyest semester of anyone in my school. Tommorows schedual(sp?) Period 1 - Fashion (Drawing girls) Period 2 - Drawing & Painting LUNCH Period 3 - Drawing & painting again. Period 4 - Spare (No class) And no matter how easy, I still seem to hate it ..No its not that im not being challenged enough, its just so.. I dunno >.>

I don't want to sound like your school counselor or anything but I know you're smart and you're a really nice guy and I'd hate to see you just drop out and be a stockboy because it's such a waste of potential.
Think about what you enjoy doing... drawing for example. I know it seems like bullshit in high school and to be honest, it is and college is too. The only purpose is to college is to get a good job. It's a great way to get out of the house though and finally get some freedom/privacy without having to worry about all the real life responsibilities you'd have if you just dropped out & went to a minimum wage job.
You should look into tech schools if you want to go past high school because they're cheap, only 1-2 years long, & have good job placement programs. I have a friend who went to a 2 year tech school and now he's a video game designer. I don't know if you're taking fashion because you enjoy it or because there's nothing better to take but there are tons of fashion schools if you like designing. At least in the tech schools you're doing it because you're learning what you'll be doing for your career. You won't have to take bullshit like Law & Politics or Philosophy like I'm taking now for my PSYCHOLOGY degree (talk about a waste of time).

I've always been interested in philoshophy, and art, and no im not interested in Fashion, I took it because it was easy, and the ratio of girls to guys is 1:12 (2:24) And trust me I've thought through everything you just said, I've even had my guidence councler agree with me on, that it may be the best choice for me to drop out. (Now before you tell me "BS" their trained not to say that!" listen to the rest ) The thing is I hate school, I know I go to school for the education, and even more for the opportunities it would open up for me. I go for a couple years, then I have more options, I can do what I want, and people will want me to work for them, instead of always the other way around. Nobody wants a highschool drop-out working for them. The thing is I hate school, because its all I know. I'm not suggesting dropping out permanently, I've been concidering dropping out as a temporary thing, so I can get some taste of what else there is, and I can maybe smarten up. If I don't drop out, the odds are I'll get kicked out of the best art high-school in toronto, for those of you that may be canadian, we designed the toonie. If I get kicked out, its permanent, I cannot get back into that school, and my odds of opportunities decrease. If I drop out, I have a chance of getting back in, when I feel I'm ready to take this stuff seriously. I'm not planning on giving up my life, I'm attempting to make an informed decision on takeing a break from school for a while, or not. EDIT: I realise the topic has changed from "this might force me to drop out", to concidering dropping out, but yeah... ive been thinkin lately

Matt...I think Pinkie has made a compelling case for you to stay in school. I won't even try to top it. All I will say is that you are acting very lazy. If you don't like fashion and the drive is an hour....then why not move to a school that is closer with something you do like? Your current path would seem to only open options in something you have no interest. The reality is, we all have to do things we don't like. I know you are young but I have to admit I am surprised at how immature you are being about this whole thing. I wouldn't say it if I didn't love you. While you are thinking make sure you understand your own limitations by age and I don't care why SHAME on that counselor. BTW - Don't forget I got married at 18 right out of high school. Life is SO much easier with education. End of story. We have had to work our way up and it has taken years. And honestly neither of us has gotten a degree because we were stupid and did things back assward. So I say what I say from experience. Been there done that except with at least with a HS Diploma and Jim did do like Pinkie suggested and got technical training that really worked out. He got lucky and into a field that blossomed. Again we at least had a HS Diplomas.

Maybe I am being immature. But understand that I can't force myself to go to class, I in all honesty don't use the words "can't", or "impossible", or "Hate" very often, at least in a non-joking way. It's not that I don't like school, its that I hate school, and I don't hate it like every other student, I hate it because i've been doing the same work in-and-out since Grade 8, with the occasional challenge that just seems to make me not wanna even bother. I'm sure the reasons I hate school are immature, but I don't think the reasons for me wanting to take a break for a year, or possibly 2, are immature. The purpose of me doing this would be that I smarten up, and maybe get mature enough to hold up my grades. If I were to finish this year, then I'd be going on to College next year, and the colleges would be looking at the grades of 50% - 80%, and the only above 60% grades would be in art.

Well if you do decide to drop out you should work at mcdonalds. I dont know about canada but in the U.S. if u are able to become a manager just for a mcdonalds you will make over $100000 a year. I know that seems like a lot to make without a hs diploma, but im serious my friends done it. O yea, and I started feeling the same way u do about going to school, so what ive done if just taking the hardest classes I could to challenge me, now i dont even have time to even worry about dropping out

Nobody at McDonalds in canada makes money... 'cept maybe the stock holders. =P and keep in mind I dont plan on becomming a high-school drop out, I just want to take a break from school for about a year. If I can guarantee myself a place at that school again in about a year, then I don't see the downfall of takeing a break from it, other than my freinds will be gone, which means that I won't have any distractions... And its not the lack of challenge... when I do get challenged by school work, I usualy don't bother doing it at all.
EDIT: this probably shouldn't have become a TDP subject ^_^"

All I have to say is... what makes you feel like you are the ONLY person who doesn't want to go to class? I'd be very very surprised if a single person in here said they enjoy class. It's just a matter of pushing yourself and having the drive and self-control even though you don't enjoy it. If school was fun, they wouldn't require attendance. If work was fun, they wouldn't pay you to go.
If you're going to take a break, that's your business. The only thing I worry about is that you won't go back - and that happens most of the time. I'll be honest, people hate school as much as you do. But they know what they have to do and they get it done. How much more school do you have left... 1 semester? Why take 1-2 years off when you could be out of there in a few months? Then you can take a little time off before college and at least you'll have a diploma in case you change your mind about college.
We can all tell you our opinions but in the end you'll do what you want to anyways. So I wish you luck and hope you make the right decision. This situation kinda reminds me of Stones and sun-gazing thing. Like Lady said though, we only are arguing with you about it cuz we want the best for you.

1/4 of the year actualy isn't even over yet. And that sun glazing comparison hurts (No offence Stones =P) The was I see it, be takeing a year off I... Pros. - Gain work experiance - get real life experiance - gain a drive to get a better job which means going to school - get time off from the only life ive known for as long as I can remember (school) - make money - save money - start paying my own way, partialy. (I intend to start paying for part of the rent, by choice, not by demand) - I take a little control of my life. - I increase the odds that I'll do well in school. Cons. - I finish school a year later than the people I know. I in all honesty haven't heard an argument that would make me not want to? And don't think that means I dont want to hear one, 'cuz I do, I want an informed decision on wether or not I do this. The reason I don't smoke, is because my mom, sister, and brother do. The reason I dont smoke weed, is because my brother and sister do. The reason I wouldn't drop out of school permanently, My brother and sister did, and my mom would kill me I dont think I've mentioned it, but I am pretty close to getting kicked out according to the VP. once that happens I can't get back in. I think stepping back and takeing a look at my life would be good for me, I realise how important school is, I'm not concidering not finishing highschool, that is a for sure thing. like I said before, I would like to hear reasons not to.
